BlueTree Studios- Ahmedabad

Thursday, August 14, 2014

Jumping in the driving seat of the currently free-wheeling Indian Indie Scene-wagon are a hard-working bunch from Gujarat, Bluetree studios, headed by producer Uddipan Sarmah and his friends Shubham Gurung and Ashwin Naidu.

Very silently BlueTree Studios  earned themselves a formidable reputation and a huge number of rabid supporters throughout Ahmadabad. Very fittingly when they started shop, their schedules went batshit as if the initiative had transcended the normal rules of a business. “What people from the rest of the country don't realize is that a subculture very much exists in Gujarat just as much as it exists anywhere else. It's very close to Mumbai and Delhi and has a huge community of musicians and music enthusiasts." Uddipan is a few months away from starting a tour as a producer, after spending the vast majority of 2013 in a room pushing buttons; undoubtedly he seems enthusiastic and full of cheer. "The idea was never to restrict myself to Ahmadabad alone. I want to make music a possibility for independent artistes from all over the country. So I'm taking the studio to their homes."

Citing a love for all things independent, the studio has drawn in quite a following with it's infectious brand of music that brings a glimpse of summer shine to the dreariest of low-budget production seekers. Uddipan’s work-ethic might be become slightly more relevant when he mentions his reasons for leaving a blue collar job in Bengaluru and moving back to Gujarat. " "My first album Zindagi is a very personal album and it turned out the way it was because I wrote it in a span of almost four years between college and working as a Marketing Executive. I think that was one of the reasons why it feels like a successful record to me is because I managed to craft an honest record. But once the record started selling and people started responding to it, I felt like I could make the leap from music being my passion to a full-time job. I was travelling because of work all the time, so I realized building my base in Bangalore would be a little hard because it's lifestyle demands a lot from you and honestly, that's not who I am as a person. That's when I made the shift to Ahmadabad. Ideally, I couldn't have survived by just making music either. I realized a lot of independent artistes wanted to record an album and put it out for people to listen. That's when it struck me that what I had managed to do it for myself; I had acquired skills to help someone else do it as well and since money was always the barrier for me, I felt like I could relieve others of the same barrier by minimising costs and maximizing output. Ofcourse, you'd think I'm just saying that to make myself and my brand a feasible choice but then you'd see when you compare that the kind of quality we provide and the aptness of the kind of sound I can provide for any kind of genre is the best deal for the kind of money I charge. So there it was an idea to make the studio environment accesible to everyone who had been restricted to their bedrooms and garages. That was the genesis of Blue Tree Studios. I figured out the logistics of the plan and went ahead with the idea. For the first time, even my parents were supportive of the plan because as an addition to just playing music I had started to produce, teach and market music for independent artistes and it seemed like a pretty solid business proposition more than anything else. So me and my friend Shubham Gurung sat for months together and figured out everything from recording techniques to how the studio should look."

"Primarily, BlueTree Studios is an attempt to inspire artistes at every level of the music circuit to achieve the objective of transforming their music into a professional-sounding product. The central focus is hence providing via a hands on approach and helping them attain a distinctive sound at a price they can easily afford. Whether you are a band from school trying to make yourself heard or a director trying to make a soundtrack for your movie, we custom-design a product that fits your specific needs and budget." he adds.

June 2014, saw the release of the Studio’s product – complete with bright, eye-bothering videos and artwork. It is brimming with the afore mentioned positivity and secures the notion that things are looking bright for the young bunch. "I have managed to build a conglomerate of sorts in the last one year. Not only are we helping bands record the music, we go beyond the studio by helping them package it thus helping them with brand identity and even Press Relations at times. Needless to say, because of the quality delivered at the price charged I have been continiously working with artistes from other states like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkatta. With the promise of quality firmly guaranteed, we and our artistes have recieved hyperbolic praise around the country." mentioned Sarmah

For  three unsuspecting young men looking to produce music with a kick and emotion, they have seemingly stumbled upon gold, the future looks to be Sunny. " Well, let's hope we can keep the fire burning. We are working on a couple of collaborations and after the release of our first 2cd compilation of recordings, brands like Pepsi Mtv Indies have mentioned interest in working towards the development of this cause."
